Briefing
Detailed
At launch, the ID.7 will come with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels with 282 horsepower. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant with more power is expected to join the lineup later on, but for now, this rear-wheel-drive setup should provide fairly perky acceleration. VW claims a 60 mph acceleration time of 5.0 seconds. We sampled a prototype in Spain and were impressed by its taut suspension, well-controlled body motions, and playful handling. We did note, however, that the steering feel in some driving modes felt less natural than we would have liked, but it's possible some of the tuning hasn't been finalized yet. When the ID.7 launches, we'll get a chance to drive a production version and we'll update this story with new driving impressions when that happens.
