- Geely Galaxy M9 SUV Receives Over 40,000 Pre-Orders in China Within 24 Hours
Geely announced that its flagship Galaxy M9 PHEV model received over 40,000 pre-orders within 24 hours of opening pre-orders on August 24th. This full-size plug-in hybrid SUV is available in six versions. As the largest vehicle in the Galaxy lineup, it targets families seeking a six-seat layout combined with range-extended hybrid performance.
The M9 is derived from the Galaxy Starship concept showcased at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show and incorporates several design elements from it. At the front, a "Brilliant Galaxy" LED light bar connects the headlights, while a lidar sensor is mounted on the roof. The vehicle measures 5,205 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,800 mm high, with a 3,030 mm wheelbase, just 4 mm shorter than the Mercedes-Benz GLS. Geely notes that cabin space utilization is 88.3%. A dual-chamber air suspension offers up to 95mm of ride height adjustment, supported by continuous damping control.
Inside, the three-row 2+2+2 seating arrangement offers individually power-adjustable chairs with heating in all positions and ventilation and massage in the first two rows. An 180mm center aisle makes third-row access easier, while amenities include a ceiling-mounted 17.3-inch 3K monitor for rear passengers, a folding table, and a 9.1-liter refrigerator. Cargo capacity is rated at 328 liters with all seats in place, expanding to 2,171 liters with the second and third rows folded. Audio is provided by a 27-speaker Flyme Sound system.
The cockpit combines a 12.66-inch LCD instrument panel, a head-up display, and a 30-inch touchscreen that spans the driver and front passenger. A wireless charging pad and physical controls are also installed. The Flyme Auto 2 system, powered by the AI assistant Eva, manages navigation, entertainment, and cabin functions via voice or touch input. The driver assistance package, called G-Pilot H5 (Qianli Haohan H5), integrates 27 sensors, including lidar, and is powered by dual Nvidia Orin X processors rated at 508 TOPS. Features include door-to-door assisted driving, autonomous city navigation without pre-installed maps, and automatic emergency braking at speeds up to 80 mph.
Powertrain options are built around the EM-P Hybrid 2.0 system. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 120 kW of power and works with three electric motors to deliver a total system output of 649 kW (870 horsepower) and 720 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive versions accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Buyers can choose between two battery packs: an 18.4 kWh pack with a range of 62 miles (100 kilometers) and a 41.5 kWh pack with a range of 130 kilometers. In depleted battery mode, fuel consumption is rated at 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres.
