Thanks to Qatar's policy of promoting new energy vehicles in the field of public transportation in recent years, China's automobile exports to Qatar have grown rapidly in 2024. Data provided by the Chinese Embassy in Qatar show that from January to October 2024, China's automobile exports to Qatar increased by 71.6% year-on-year, with a total export volume of US$442 million.
During the 2022 Qatar World Cup, 888 Yutong pure electric buses effectively guaranteed transportation, picking up nearly 100,000 fans every day during peak hours, and continued to serve the local bus network after the game. In addition, Qatar National Transport Company has also introduced Yutong's new energy light trucks and electric school buses to prepare for the full electrification of Qatar's public transportation.
In December 2024, Qatar's first electric commercial vehicle assembly plant was established. The groundbreaking ceremony for the electric bus assembly plant jointly established by Yutong and Qatar National Transport Company was held in the Qatar Free Trade Zone.
In the field of passenger cars, Chery Automobile's Jetour has become the fastest growing Chinese auto brand in Qatar. Jetour entered the Qatar market in April 2023. Thanks to the rapid growth in sales of its star model Jetour T2, in the first 11 months of 2024, Jetour ranked third in sales of all brands in Qatar and second in the SUV segment, with a market share of more than 12%.
